Meet Mady:

Mady Nutter is a strategic communication professional and certified peer health educator with passions for reproductive justice advocacy, public health and sex education. Mady has recently become a public health ambassador with Ohio University, where she will advise students about COVID-19 safety protocols. She will earn her degree in strategic communication with a specialization in women’s, gender and sexuality studies from Ohio University in May 2022.

Mady has pursued several opportunities to hone her communication skills throughout her college career thus far. In her role serving as the political director of the Ohio University College Democrats the past two years, Mady has been the point of contact between OUCD and the Ohio Democratic Party, the Athens County Democratic Party, elected officials and campaigns. Mady’s political involvement additionally included a social media internship with Kate Schroder’s campaign for Ohio’s first district during the summer of 2020.

Mady’s communication skills lend to her passion for sex education, which she enacts in her role as a certified peer health educator with the student organization, POWER/GAMMA, in Ohio University’s Office of Health Promotion. Mady strongly believes that every person has a right to know themselves and their body, and she finds that the best way for her to advocate for this belief is through peer health education. The first program Mady taught was to a group of medical professionals on how to talk to their patients about sex in more comfortable and inclusive ways. She finds that presentations on topics like this serve as an everlasting reminder to herself and others that there is always something new we can learn.

Mady looks forward to pursuing a reproductive justice internship in the summer of 2021 in addition to creating an LGBTQ+ sexual health program with POWER/GAMMA. In the future, Mady hopes to act as a strategic communication professional in the reproductive justice community and become a certified sex educator.
